Custom Wrestling Shirts: Ideas for Teams, Parents and Tournaments
Share
Tournament Saturday starts in the dark. By 6:30 a.m. the mats are taped down, the scale is set up by the locker room door, and parents are claiming bleacher rows with seat cushions and coolers. Every club in the gym is easy to spot, except yours, still in a mix of old practice tees.
Custom wrestling shirts cover everything around the match: practice room shirts, warm-up tops, weigh-in hoodies, parent shirts and tournament staff shirts. This guide lays out each type, design ideas pulled from the sport, names and weight classes, what we do not make, an AI prompt and a simple ordering plan for the season.

The short answer
Custom wrestling shirts are the team's practice, warm-up and fan apparel, not the singlet worn in a match. Choose a bold team design, print each wrestler's name and weight class on the back, add hoodies for cold weigh-ins and parent shirts for the bleachers, and order before the first tournament of the season.
Custom wrestling shirts by use
Be clear with the team about what these shirts are. We do not make singlets, compression gear, headgear, shorts or socks. Competition uniforms follow the rules of the National Federation of State High School Associations and your state association or league, so check those before anyone plans to wrestle in a printed shirt.
| Use | Who wears it | Best style | Design focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Practice room | Wrestlers | T-shirt or tank top | Simple, durable-looking art; a motto on the back |
| Warm-up and walk-out | Wrestlers, between matches | Long sleeve or jersey T-shirt | Name and weight class, team name large |
| Weigh-ins and travel | Whole roster | Lightweight hoodie or zip hoodie | Team crest front, roster or season schedule back |
| Bleachers | Parents, siblings, grandparents | T-shirt or sweatshirt | Wrestler's name or weight class with a fan title |
| Mat side | Coaches | Polo or lightweight zip hoodie | Small chest logo, "COACH" on the back |

Custom wrestling shirt ideas from the mat room
- Mat circle graphic. The center circle and starting lines drawn across the chest, team name inside the circle.
- Weight-class ladder. Every class on the roster stacked down the back like a lineup card, with names beside them.
- Singlet-inspired panels. Side stripes and a high-cut color block that echo the competition uniform.
- Bracket art. A tournament bracket fading behind the team crest, with the final line reading "CHAMPION."
- Original mottos. "Hand Fight. Hold Position. Finish." · "Six Minutes Is a Long Time" · "The Room Remembers" · "Built in February."
- Grit texture. A worn, distressed pattern that looks like old mat tape across the shoulders.
- Hometown mark. The county outline or water tower with the club's founding year.
School names, mascots and logos are usually controlled by the school. Get approval from the athletic director before using them, and keep college and pro marks off the shirt entirely.
Names and weight classes
Wrestling uses weight classes the way other sports use jersey numbers. Printing each wrestler's class on the back gives the shirt the same personal feel.
- Surname over weight class: "ALVAREZ" above a large "152."
- First name and class for club teams that go by first names in the room.
- Leave the class off if wrestlers often cut or bump up weights mid-season, and print a role like "CAPTAIN" or the graduation year instead.
- Milestone lines such as "100 Wins" or "State Qualifier" can be printed under a single wrestler's name when earned.
All of these can go in one order, with every shirt carrying its own text.
Parent and fan shirts
Wrestling parents spend long days in the stands and deserve a shirt that says so. Some wording that keeps the humor friendly:
- "Wrestling Mom · 138"
- "I Survive on Concession Stand Coffee"
- "Loud Until the Final Whistle"
- "My Wrestler Makes Weight, I Make Snacks"
- "Bleacher Coach (Unofficial)"
Every style comes in adult sizes S–6XL only. That covers parents, coaches and wrestlers who already wear adult sizes, but not smaller elementary-age athletes. For more parent sideline ideas across sports, see team mom shirts.
Shirts for a hosted tournament
Hosting a dual or an invitational brings its own shirt list: table workers, scorers, mat runners and a souvenir shirt for teams. Put the tournament name and date on the front, the participating teams in a bracket-style list on the back, and give volunteers a bright color with "STAFF" across the shoulders. Confirm team names spelled the way each club writes them, and ask permission before adding any school's logo. For event-wide planning, custom team shirts covers collecting a big group order.
AI prompt for a team shirt
A mockup in ChatGPT or Gemini gets coaches and the booster club agreeing faster. Read how to design a shirt with AI for tips on fixing a draft.
Create a front and back mockup of an all-over printed adult lightweight hoodie for a club wrestling team called GRANITE VALLEY GRAPPLERS. Colors: deep maroon body, charcoal and white accents, a subtle distressed texture across the shoulders. Front: a wrestling mat center circle with starting lines, team name inside the circle in bold block letters. Back: "HAND FIGHT. HOLD POSITION. FINISH." near the top, then the surname ALVAREZ above a huge white number 152 with a charcoal outline. No school or college logos. Plain light background.
Next, ask for a gray T-shirt version for parents reading "WRESTLING MOM · 152." AI lettering is often uneven; we redraw the art and retype every name and class free, then email the proof for approval.

Common questions
Do you make wrestling singlets?
No. We make tops for practice, warm-ups, travel and fans: T-shirts, tank tops, jersey tees, long sleeves, polos, sweatshirts and lightweight hoodies. Singlets are specialized competition uniforms with their own rules, so teams usually buy those separately and match our shirts to the singlet colors.
Can every shirt show a different weight class?
Yes. Each shirt in one order can carry its own name and weight class, or a role like captain. If weights are likely to shift during the season, consider printing graduation year or a nickname instead, so the shirt still makes sense in March.
What should a wrestling team print on a tournament shirt?
The tournament name, date and host city on the front, and a list or bracket of participating teams on the back. Staff shirts in a different bright color help coaches find the head table. Only use school logos with permission from each school.
Are hoodies a good choice for wrestling teams?
They are a favorite. Wrestling season runs through winter, and early weigh-ins and long gym days can be chilly between matches. A lightweight hoodie with names on the back doubles as a travel top and makes the team easy to spot across a crowded gym.
