Custom Softball Jerseys: Designs, Names, Numbers and Sizing
Share
Sunday doubleheader, 94 degrees, and your third baseman is playing in a gray cotton tee with "SPARKY'S TAVERN" cracking off the back. The team across the diamond has matching jerseys with names and numbers, and somehow they look like they hit harder.
Custom softball jerseys fix the look and help the scorekeeper, the umpire and whoever is filming from the bleachers. This guide covers design ideas that fit the sport, where names and numbers go, colors that stand out against dirt and grass, sizing for coed rosters, and how to order.

The short answer
The best custom softball jerseys for most rec and tournament teams are crew-neck sublimated jersey tees with each player's name and number on the back. Choose two strong contrasting colors, keep numbers large and outlined, and collect sizes early. Tanks suit hot summer leagues; long sleeves suit spring nights.
Custom softball jersey design ideas
Softball has its own visual language. Lean into it instead of borrowing a generic template.
- Stitch lines. Red softball seams curving across the chest or down one sleeve. Simple, instantly recognizable.
- Diamond fade. An infield outline that fades from the hem up, in a tone slightly darker than the body color.
- Retro chest stripe. One wide band across the chest with the team name inside, a nod to old-school league shirts.
- Sunset gradient. Orange to purple for evening leagues, with a small palm or skyline silhouette.
- Sponsor block. For bar and business-sponsored teams, a clean rectangle on the back shoulders or lower back keeps the sponsor visible without crowding the number.
- Distressed script. A worn, vintage-style team name for teams that have played together for a decade.

Which shirt style fits your league
We do not make button-front jerseys. Crew-neck jersey tees are the everyday choice for slow-pitch and many fastpitch rec teams, and they are easier to size and reorder.
| Situation | Style | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Weeknight slow-pitch in summer | Jersey T-shirt or tank top | Simple cut that stays out of the way when you swing, in moisture-wicking fabric for a 94-degree doubleheader |
| Early spring or late fall games | Long sleeve | Covers arms on cool nights and in all-day sun (UPF 50+) |
| Weekend tournaments | Jersey T-shirt plus a lightweight hoodie | Hoodie goes on between games in the shade |
| Manager and base coaches | Polo | Matches the team without pretending to play |
| Spouses, parents and fans | T-shirt or sweatshirt | Same design, no number, maybe "#1 FAN" on the back |
Names, numbers and color contrast
Softball is played on tan dirt and green grass, often under bright sun or orange field lights. That setting eats certain colors.
- Avoid tan, khaki and light brown bodies. Players blend into the infield in photos.
- Watch out for green on green. A kelly green jersey in the outfield is hard to pick out on video.
- Give numbers an outline. A white number with a black edge reads on nearly any body color.
- Put the name above the number on the back, and keep the front clean: team name plus a small number if you like.
- Check tournament rules. Sanctioned events can have uniform and numbering requirements. If you play in them, look up your sanctioning body, such as USA Softball, or ask the tournament director.
Duplicate numbers cause headaches in the scorebook, so settle numbers in the team chat before anyone fills in the size form.
Sizing a coed or tournament roster
Coed rosters span a wide size range, and softball players like room to swing. Every style comes in adult sizes S–6XL, which covers most adult rosters in a single order.
- Send the size chart with the form. People guess wrong when they size from memory.
- Ask about fit preference. Some players size up for a looser feel at the plate.
- High school fastpitch: players who already wear adult sizes are fine. There are no sizes for young children, so a 10U team would use our shirts for coaches and parents only.
- Order one spare in the most common size for the inevitable mid-season pickup player.
Mocking up your jersey in ChatGPT or Gemini
A picture settles the color argument faster than a group text. Paste a prompt like one of these and adjust names and colors. More tips are in how to design a shirt with AI.
Create a flat front and back mockup of a crew-neck sublimated softball jersey T-shirt for an adult coed team called the DIRTBAG DINGERS. Colors: navy body, bright orange and white accents. Red softball stitch lines curve across the left chest and down the right sleeve. Front: team name in bold vintage script. Back: last name REYES above a large orange number 27 with a white outline. Plain gray background, no model.
Design a sleeveless softball tank top for a summer women's league team called SUNSET SLUGGERS. Sunset gradient from orange at the shoulders to deep purple at the hem, small palm silhouettes near the side seams. Front: team name in a retro chest stripe. Back: number 3 in white block digits. Front and back flat view.
AI lettering is rarely perfect. Every word gets retyped cleanly for print, and you approve the mockup first. Stick to logos your team or sponsor owns; skip MLB, college and other licensed marks.
Ordering custom softball jerseys
When the design and roster are ready, upload them on our custom shirt page. Include the sponsor logo file or a clear photo if you have one. Artwork is rebuilt free, and your mockup arrives in 1–3 business days.

Common questions
Do you make button-up softball jerseys?
No. We make crew-neck jersey T-shirts, tank tops, long sleeves and polos, all fully sublimated. Many rec and tournament softball teams wear crew-neck jerseys, but if your league requires a button-front style, check that first and use our shirts for coaches, warmups and fans.
Where should the number go on a softball jersey?
The main number goes large and centered on the back, with the player's name above it. A smaller front number is optional. Some sanctioned tournaments set rules on number size or placement, so check with your league or tournament director before approving the final mockup.
Can a sponsor logo go on our softball jerseys?
Yes, as long as the sponsor has given you permission and sends a usable logo or a clear photo. A sponsor block on the upper or lower back usually works well. We redraw the logo for print and show its placement on your mockup.
How many softball jerseys should we order?
Order one for each rostered player, plus one or two spares in common sizes for subs. There is no minimum, and quantity discounts start at three items. Adding a few fan shirts for families to the same order can push the team into a higher discount tier.
